Lady Norse Win Season Opener Over Southern Wells
The Northfield Lady Norse opened their basketball season with a 54-50 win over Southern Wells Tuesday.
Northfield fell behind 9-4 early in the game before shaking some jitters to grab the lead. Ellie Baker would hit a three and was followed by a Callie Hoffman bucket to tie the score at 9. Baker would hit two free throws to give Northfield a 13-12 lead after one.
The Norse would increase their lead to start the second when Baker hit, followed by two Hoffman free throws to make it 17-12. At 17-14 Camryn Kuhn connected with Taegan Baer and baker adding buckets to lead 23-14. Up 29-20 the Norse would give up 6 straight points and led 29-26 at the half.
Kuhn and Baker would do the scoring all the scoring in the third. Northfield led 39-34 before Southern Wells scored 9 straight and led Northfield 43-39 with a quarter to go.
The Norse would get a good start in the fourth with Kuhn draining a three before Baer hit a free throw and a bucket to lead 45-43. Laney Haupert and Baker would add buckets as the score was tied 50-50 with 1:17 to go. Haupert would then grab a rebound and race the length of the court for a layup and a 52-50 lead. Souther Wells would then foul with 14.4 on the clock before Kuhn drained two free throws to seal the 54-50 win.
