Lady Knights Fall To Elwood

The Southwood Lady Knights grabbed a first quarter lead before falling to Elwood 43-42 Friday.

Alivia Pershing got the scoring started for Southwood, building a 7-2 lead after a three from Lola Winer and a bucket from Hali Pershing. Elwood would score five straight to tie the score before Hali Pershing and Adi Deaton took control and led 15-9 after the first quarter.

Up 16-9 to start the fourth quarter the Knights would give up seven straight for a tie score. Down 18-17, Ella Chambers would hit two free throws to give Southwood a 19-18 halftime lead.

The Panthers would score the first points of the third quarter before the Pershing’s gave Southwood a 24-20 lead. Elwood would then score nine of the next twelve points to grab a 29-28 lead. A Winer bucket, followed by a Chambers three and two Gracie Lambert free throws put the Knights up 35-31 after three.

It was a see saw affair in the fourth with the lead changing four times before Elwood took a 43-42 lead with 1:05 left that would hold for the final score.

The Southwood junior varsity jumped out to a 31-0 lead after one quarter enroute to a 66-7 win.
