Lady Kings Rally in Thriller to Secure Spot in Cass County Tournament Championship
The 2024 Cass County Tournament tipped off Tuesday night at Pioneer, with the Lady Kings delivering a thrilling overtime victory to punch their ticket to the championship game.
The Lady Kings came out firing, building a commanding 24-8 lead in the first quarter behind a red-hot shooting performance. Mylie Sipes poured in 12 of her game-high 15 points during the period, sinking two 3 pointers and Anna Hedrick matched her hitting two of her own.
However, the game took a dramatic turn over the next three quarters. The Lady Panthers clamped down defensively, holding the Kings to just six points through the second and third quarters, clawing their way back into contention. The Kings struggled to regain their offensive rhythm, while the Panthers capitalized to take the lead heading into the final minutes.
With the game on the line in the fourth quarter, Anna Hedrick delivered a clutch 3-pointer to force overtime, shifting the momentum back in the Kings’ favor. In the extra period, contributions from Laney Davis, Aftin Griffin, and Hedrick proved decisive, as the Kings scored eight points in overtime to secure the hard-fought victory.
Final scorers for the Lady Kings included Mylie Sipes with 15 points, Anna Hedrick with 13, Aftin Griffin and Kylie Logan each adding 5, Laney Davis with 4, and Hope Rush chipping in 1.
The win improves the Lady Kings’ record to 5-1 on the season. They now await the winner of the Caston-Logansport matchup for Saturday night’s championship game, scheduled for 8:00 PM at Logansport High School.
