Varsity vs Kokomo High School (82 – 79) Win
Coach Burrus Quotes: “All I can say is WOW!!! We beat Kokomo!!! The home win streak continues. It was a very challenging weekend. At Peru. Then, come home and play Kokomo. We wanted this group to get a shot at Kokomo. We came out early and pressed like we normally do. I realized early on full court pressure was not neccessary. Kokomo would create plenty of pace. Also, most teams have two or three good 3point shooters. They at times, had 5 legitimate 3point shooters on the floor. We had to guard everybody. Kokomo just simply doesn’t lose to 3A public schools very often. This was an historic win for the Maconaquah Community. We pushed the ball hard at them. One telling stat was we were 3-7 from 3. Kokomo was 9-43 from 3!!! We also shot 49 free throws to their 13. I thought we shot more free throws because we went to the basket. We don’t foul 3 point shooters. Half of Kokomo’s shots were 3point attempts. And Kokomo was pressing, hard. We were back playing half-court defense. This lead to our huge free throw advantage.
We had plenty of heroes. I will start with AJ Kelly. He was chased by 2 and 3 guys all night, full court. It was fun to watch AJ just keep coming. He was relentless, to say the least. He scored 17 points and drew 10 fouls!!! He simply refused to lose. Josiah Ball played great and hit 11-13 free throws. Those were big. It was fun to watch Josiah against a team that wanted a full-court game. I think we showed we can run with Kokomo. He scored 25 points in 3 quarters because of fouls. Some coaches would have put him on the bench longer but we had the lead. We gambled and he did foul out but we were able to run some clock with him out. If we kept him out we may not have had that big of a lead. He played great when he was in there. Fuddy Kile just did it all in this game. He had another double-double. 17 points and 13 rebounds. He got some monster rebounds against the big kid for Kokomo(#35). He also hit 8-14 free throws. Those were big down the stretch. Devon Murry has become a legitimate threat for us. He did a great job releasing and getting fast-break buckets for us. He hit a big 3 in the corner in the second half. He also secured the rebound to end the game. Played great defense throughout. What a thrill for him. Proud of Murry. We have all watched him improve before our eyes. Landon Adams hit a big 3 in the second half, too. He helped handle the ball and worked hard to guard on defense. Landon has really improved his defense. He scored 7 big points we had to have. His driving left hand layup showed is progress. Nate Rader and Caiden Richards came in and really helped us on both ends. For our team to beat Kokomo with Josiah Ball sitting a whole quarter was a real credit to the resiliency of this team!!! Another thing I would like to share is a thank you to our Brave Nation. To come back with that kind of support AFTER coming out on Friday at Peru was just awesome for our team. Thank you for being part of it. Thanks for giving your time to Maconaquah. We needed all of you. As I looked up and saw Rick Clark standing, excited at the end I had a feeling of tradition at Mac. Looking around, seeing all the former players, all the loyal fans… This win was for ALL of Maconaquah. Congratulations!!! We ALL beat Kokomo.
Thank You for being part of this community!!!
Go Braves!!!”

Varsity vs Peru High School (85 – 57) Win
Coach Burrus Quotes: “We played a complete game at Peru. Every player and every fan made it happen. We had the whole community behind us. When you have a crowd that big on the road it no longer feels like a road game. It feels more neutral. Our team and our crowd neutralized the tough road assignment. I really liked our pressure on defense. We got lots of pressure on the ball which is a major goal of our defense. We were also much more efficient on offense than the Miami County Tournament. We gave up the same amount of points on defense but we moved the ball and really got what we wanted on offense. Great team effort. Some highlights were the 36 points from Josiah Ball. Fuddy Kile had 17 points and 18 rebounds. Unbelievable game for Fuddy. Devon Murry had 18 points. AJ Kelly had 9 points but played well taking care of the ball, and great defense. Landon Adams had 7 assists.
We have beat Peru now 4 straight. Thanks to the fans for getting completely behind our team. This Peru game was great but Maconaquah Basketball was not done yet. We had Kokomo the next night. What a weekend!!!”

The boys won the Three Rivers Conference Swimming and Diving meet today. It was such an amazing day from start to finish. The boys had 34 out of 38 possible best times or scores. This makes the 10th consecutive conference title. I could give the Golden Goggle Award to all of them. Each one did his part for the team. I gave the Golden Goggle to Garrett McManus, Colton Beebe, Drake Samuel, and Aiden Ousley. Garrett had 3/4 best times and he won all four of his events. He dropped 1 sec in 200 Free and 4 in the 500. Colton has fought sickness for the last month and spent a day in bed this week. I am so proud of how he pushed through today. He dropped 2 sec in 200 IM and 5 seconds in 100 Breaststoke to place 2nd. Drake was 4/4 bests. He dropped 1 sec in 200 and an amazing 13 seconds in the 500 Free. Aiden swam out of his mind today. He was 4/4 bests. He dropped 8 seconds in the IM placing 2nd, dropped 1.5 sec in 50 back split, 2 sec in 100 Free split, and dropped 3 sec in the 100 backstroke to pull out the win. Other great performances: Luke Abbott dropped 3 sec in 200 IM and .3 in 100 Fly, P.J. Higgins dropped 3.5 in 200 Free and 24 sec in 500 Free. Ryley Rodkey dropped 1.2 in 50 Fly split, .7 in 50 Free, and 2.3 in 100 Free and won when he was seeded 3rd. Daylen Schrock had 2 bests in the 50 free and 100 Breast. Camron Metcalf won diving improving his score by 13 points and Kade Nye was 2nd in diving in his first ever 11 dive meet. Zach Duke was 4/4 bests. He dropped over a second in 50 Free and 2.2 in 100 Free and was part of the winning 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay. Ethan Lee had a best in the 100 Backstroke. Joel Loshnowsky was also sick this week. He dropped 4 seconds in the 100 Free and 1 sec in 100 Back. I am so proud of the work these guys have put into this season and the determination to get the win today. On paper, according to seed times, we were supposed to win the meet by 8 points. I told them this week how close it was and that they all had to bring it. They ended up winning by 63. They won all three relays which doesn’t happen very often and won 6 individual events. Several of the boys placed much higher than their seed times had them.
