Results from Peru for Wednesday, April 16th

Peru hosted Huntington North to kick off the home slate of the 2025 season on Wednesday.

Huntington North went 3 up and 3 down to start the game as Senior Ryne Butt mowed them down in order striking out the side.

The Tigers drew first blood in the bottom half when Junior Isaac Braley singled on a grounder to left. Junior Lucas Musser added an RBI double, followed by Senior Bryce Hill’s RBI single to plate Musser and give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

The Vikings tied things up in the top of the 2nd on a single, a sac bunt, a walk, and a double. Peru went quietly in the bottom half of the inning.

Huntington added 2 more in the 3rd with a lead-off homer, an error, a single, and 2 sacrifice bunts to take a 4-2 lead. Peru again went 3 up and 3 down.

The Vikings looked to have the offense rolling in the 4th inning with back-to-back 1-out singles, but the lead runner got when his indecision led him too far off of 2nd base and was put out in the rundown. 4 pitches later, Musser hosed the runner trying to steal second to end the inning. The Tigers tied things up in the bottom half after Junior Reis Bellar drew a leadoff walk, Musser drove the 2nd pitch he saw over the right-center field fence for a 2-run home run.

Huntington would take control of the game in the top of the 5th, when the first 6 batters reached safely to start the inning with 3 scoring before an out was recorded. In total, the Vikings would plate 4 runs to take an 8-4 lead.

The Tigers would get one baserunner in each of the next two innings, but wouldn’t be able to score them. Peru’s defense tried to turn a couple of double plays in the 6th inning, with the second one being successful, with Senior Gavin Eldridge to Junior Jacob Boswell to Hill.

The Vikings tallied the game’s final run after a single and a double set up the RBI ground out.

The loss drops the Tigers to 1-3 on the season. They are set to host 1A #6 Frontier for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
