The Manchester Invite always seems to bring out the cold, windy weather. This Saturday was no different, with wind chills hovering around 36 degrees as 45 golfers from 9 different schools which included Manchester and Northfield met at Sycamore Golf Club.
All our players settled in as the day warmed up, but some big numbers early were hard to recover from. Connor Trump led the team with a steady 82, not bad for the conditions. The real story of the day was Caleb Sautter’s Jekyll and Hyde 9 hole scores. He got off to one of the rougher starts of his high school career, playing his first 6 holes at 12 over par. But a switch flipped as he made his way to hole 10, playing the back 9 at an even 36 including 2 birdies on 10 and 17. If the tournament was only played on the back, Caleb would have been the winner…none of the other 44 golfers had a back 9 score better than 36. Northridge won the tournament with a team score of 316 and Brayden Miller of Fairfield was medalist with a 1-under 71.
Team Scores:
Connor Trump – 42/40=82
Luke Gish – 48/45=93
Landon Gish – 47/46=93
Caleb Sautter – 53/36=89
Logan Eastgate – 55/49=104
NHS golf went to Sycamore to play in the 9 team field for their first invitational of the year. Tyson Baer got second in the field with a 75 after fighting back strong finishing his last four holes four under par. Easton Shaw also got in the top 5 with a 4th place finish in the 45 man field. Gavin Brainard shot a respectable 86. Ryder Schram and Hank Gray rounded out the varsity scoring with a 96 and 101. The team earned 3rd place aside Northridge and Fairfield finishing first and second.
