Northfield Boys XC Wins Mississinewa Invite

The Northfield, Wabash and Southwood cross country teams ran in the Mississinewa Invite Saturday.

Northfield won the boys race. Bode Sorg took 4th place with a time of 18:41, Preston Moore followed in 18:42. Behind Moore was Kourtland Pratt in a time of 19:54, Ethan Hoover in 20:00, Tayten Barlow in 20:59, Xavier Roark in 21:30, Nate Hodson in 22:08, Gavin Lester in 22:50 and Ashton Aderman in 23:37.

Kamden Oswalt ran to a runner-up finish in the Mississinewa Invite Saturday morning propelling the Wabash boys team to a 3rd place finish in the process. This was the first meet for the Apaches this season. Matthew Niles was the 2nd Wabash runner to cross the finish line with an 11th place finish. Maverick Sommers ran to a 17th place finish while Landen Fisher and Kalib Mabery were close behind in 21st and 22nd.

On the boys’ side, the Knights had two competitors. Andrew Wright ran a season-best 23:45 to place 28th, while newcomer Blake Henderson showed tremendous improvement from his debut meet, dropping more than three minutes to finish 29th.

On the girls side, Southwood finished second. Southwood was led by Paige Nelson, who ran a strong race with a season-best time of 22:30.0, placing 5th overall. Right behind her, Hailey Collins continued the Knights’ momentum, taking 8th with her own season-best of 22:43.9. Andrea Widemon delivered a breakthrough race, finishing 10th with a new personal record of 22:57.4, while Elin Tyson also notched a personal best, crossing the line in 17th at 24:11.1. Rounding out the scoring was Olivia Ranck, who placed 43rd with a season-best time of 28:36.9. The Knights also saw a big step forward from Grace Ranck, who cut nearly four minutes off her previous race time

First for Wabash was Mya Golliher coming in with a career PR time of 22:38. Golliher snagged 7th place. Right on her heels was Mia Fairchild. Mia followed across the line in a season PR time of 22:44 taking 9th place. Next for the team was Mallory Tart, with a season PR time of 24:05 in 16th place. Next up was Haylee Friend, running her race in a season PR time of 25:45. Friend was able to place 26th overall. Rounding out the Lady Apaches was Emma Cantrell with a career PR time of 27:02 and taking 33rd place.

Northfield’s Kaleigh Rice placed 3rd overall for and ran a time of 20:43. Alyssa Schnepp was 2nd for the Norse and crossed the line at 25:12, Olia Leffert ran in a time of 27:01 and Shelia Smith ran in 28:09.

The Wabash Middle School Boys Cross Country Team won the Mississinewa Invite Saturday morning, their first meet of the season. 7th grader Jeffery Small was the individual winner. Close behind was teammate Kedryn Evenson in 3rd. Easton Cantrell along with Demetri Shull and Macklin Denney was part of a trio of Apache runners that came in 5th, 6th, and 7th. Phoenix Brown was separated by one place coming in 8th. Alex Perkins came in 12th rounding out the top 7 runners for Wabash. Joey Worley, Aiden Young, and Lukas Rojas finished together in 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. Finn Fairchild came in 29th.

In the middle school girls race, our Lady Norse all brought home medals- Adalynn Hawkens brought home a 3rd place finish in 13:00 with sister Audrey Hawkens following her across the line in 13:43. Brynley Rice finished in 15:49 and Kailynn Beeks with a time of 16:02.

For Northfield Gabriel Hyden finished in 8th place over all in a time of 13:21. Following Hyden was Hudson Texeira in 11th place with a time of 13:38, Declan Haupert in 13:47 and Carson McClure in 23:14.
