Girls Wrestling Opens At Whitko Invite

The Manchester, Northfield and Wabash girls wrestling teams participated in the Whitko Invite Saturday.

The Northfield Varsity Girls Wrestling Team, led by Head Coach Nicole Knox, launched their 2025–2026 season with a determined showing at the 2nd Annual Lady Wildcats Wrestling Invitational hosted by Whitko High School. Competing against 24 other teams, the Lady Norse finished a commendable 12th overall, setting a strong tone for the season ahead.

Amarah Frieden dominated the 140-pound weight class, going 3-0 and capturing 1st place. Bella Schultz powered through the 190-pound bracket with a 3-1 record, earning 3rd place honors.

Several team members celebrated personal breakthroughs, notching their first varsity pins—a major milestone in any wrestler’s journey:

Fiona Schnelker – First Varsity Pin, 2-2 record
Emerson Zwiebel – First Varsity Pin, 2-2 record
Brielle Wells – First Varsity Pin, 2-2 record
Bella Schultz – First Varsity Pin, 3-1 record

While Shelia Smith finished 0-2, her determination and willingness to compete at the varsity level reflect the team’s commitment to growth and resilience.

Wabash Apache girls wrestling team travelled to Whitko for the Wildcat Invitational. Three girls competed in their first matches of the season, coming away with 7 combined wins. The Apaches were led by Alyssa Crowley at 3-1 and a second-place finish. Cadence Gatchel finished the day 3-2, and Alyssa Rose finished 1-2, both beginning their high school careers.
