Defense Carries Lady Norse Past Oak Hill

Once again the Northfield Lady Norse relied on defense, defeating Oak Hill 32-20 Friday.

The Lady Norse turned up the defensive heat right from the start, holding Oak Hill to just 2 points in the first quarter. Emma Wilson and Teagan Baer put the Norse up 4-0 before Oak Hill scored their lone points on two free throws. Baer would then hit 4 straight from the charity stripe before Emily Miller hit the final bucket for a 10-2 lead.

Oak Hill cut the deficit to 10-7 early in the second quarter before three’s from Baer and Brynn Double made it 16-7. Northfield led 16-9 at the half.

Laney Haupert would start the scoring in the third with a long ball to make it 19-9 before Oak Hill scored 5 straight to make it 19-14. Faith Krom would stop the run with a bucket as the Norse led 21-16 after three.

After trading buckets to start the fourth quarter, Northfield led 24-18 when Miller hit followed by an Ali Copeland scoop for a three-point play and a 29-18 lead. Baer would finish the Norse scoring with two free throws and a 31-20 final.

The Northfield junior varsity defeated Oak Hill 54-26, hitting 11 three pointers in the game.
