Lady Norse Squander Double Digit Lead In Loss To Peru

The Northfield Lady Norse built a 17 point lead in the third quarter before falling to Peru 57-54 in overtime Friday.

The Norse would jump out to a 10-5 lead early in the first quarter with Teagan Baer starting the scoring with a three. Emma Wilson and Faith Krom each added a basket. Peru would close the quarter with 7 straight points to lead 12-10 after one.

The second quarter was all Northfield. Krom and Wilson put the Norse back on top before a Laney Haupert three made it 17-13. Emily Miller would then take over, scoring 10 points in the quarter as Northfield led 29-19 at the half.

A Haupert three started the third quarter with Baer and Wilson adding buckets for a 36-19 lead. At that point the Tigers began to trap and the Norse struggled to adapt. Peru would score 12 of the next 16 points to cut the deficit to 39-31 before Baer drained a long three at the buzzer to make it 42-31 after three.

Peru would continue to trap in the fourth and scored the first 7 points of the fourth to cut the Northfield lead to 42-38 before Gemma Haupert hit the Norse first bucket with 4:09 left. With Northfield up 46-41 Peru would score the nest 8 points to grab a 49-46 lead with 23.5 on the clock. The Norse would work for a shot with Baer connecting from long distance to send the game to overtime.

Peru would grab a 51-49 lead before Baer hit from long range again to put Northfield up 52-51. Tied at 54 the Tigers would hit three free throws down the stretch for a 57-54 lead before a Baer desperation three at the buzzer rattled the rim and bounced out.

The Northfield junior varsity defeated Peru 42-25.
