
The boys and girls swim teams each finished 6th at Saturday’s Warsaw Invitational.
Sophie Cumberland led the girls team with victories in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. In the 100 freestyle Cumberland took a commanding lead and never let up, winning by over 5 seconds in a personal best 58.23. In the 100 backstroke, she powered past her Warsaw rival in the final 50 yards to win in a personal best 1:05.81.
Kai Elliott led the boys with a 5th place finish in the 100 breaststroke. Jet Thomas had a strong day with sixth place finishes in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle. Gabe Selleck picked up a pair of top 10 finishes, finishing 9th in the 100 freestyle and 8th in the 50 freestyle. Evan Bennett also squeezed out a top ten finish in the 500 freestyle, finishing 10th. The Squires continued their steady improvement with nearly every Squire swimmer finishing the meet with a season or lifetime best swim. The Squires will return to action on Thursday, when they’ll host Rochester in the first home meet of the year.
