Norse Wrestlers Tune Up For State Duals

The Northfield Varsity wrestling team put together a steady, team-oriented effort on Tuesday night, earning a 67–12 road victory against Southern Wells.

Northfield opened the meet with a strong technical fall from Elijah Gahl (175 lbs), who worked consistently for a 19–1 win. Teammates Rylan Schultz (190) and Rylan Turner (215) followed with a pin and a technical fall, helping the Norsemen build early momentum.

At heavyweight, Cail Dunphy (285) secured a first period pin, giving Northfield an early boost. The team also benefitted from forfeits at 106, 120, and 132 lbs, adding important points to their total.
Southern Wells battled hard throughout the evening and earned victories at 113 lbs, where Briggs Fiechter recorded a fall, and at 126 lbs, where Lane McCune won by pin in the first period.

Northfield responded with a string of solid performances down the stretch. Brayden Rice (138) and Tayten Barlow (144) each earned pins in the second period. At 150 lbs, Lucas Law wrestled through a close match to come away with a 13–9 decision. Luke Eviston (157) and Mason Steller (165) closed out the dual with back-to-back falls.
The Norsemen emphasized team unity and steady improvement throughout the night, using the meet as another step forward in their season.

The Norsemen will next compete in the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association 1A Team State Tournament on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Franklin Community High School.
