The Wabash High School boys cross country team hosted the Apache Invite Tuesday evening at the city park coming away victorious for the 10th consecutive year with a score of 15 points.
The Apaches have won the meet every year since it’s inception in 2016. Rochester finished 2nd with 66 points, Lewis Cass 3rd with 76 points, and Northfield 4th with 77 points. Whitko did not field a complete team.
Ezra Church and Kamden Oswalt ran together for the first two miles with Ezra pulling away late for the individual victory. James Unger led group of three Apaches with Kedryn Evenson and Luis Trejo in close pursuit finishing 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Kalib Mabery came in 11th and Landen Fisher 12th. Demetri Shull came in 19th and Carter Pegg 28th.
The Wabash High School girls cross country team turned in a strong performance on their home course Tuesday, capturing the team championship at the Apache Invite.
Racing in familiar territory, the Lady Apaches competed with confidence and determination from the opening mile through the finish. The team’s depth and commitment helped Wabash secure the top spot while representing their school and community on their home course.
Leading the way for the Lady Apaches was Teresina Cordes, who won the individual race with an impressive time of 18:46. Wabash continued to pack the front of the field, with Sutton Stoffel placing 3rd in 21:35, followed by Mya Golliher in 4th at 22:12 and Mia Fairchild in 6th at 23:17 a season PR. Chloe Cooper finished 9th in with a season PR of 23:46, while Mallory Tart placed 12th in 25:07. Emma Cantrell crossed the finish line in 15th with a time of 26:02, and Josie Bailey rounded out the Wabash runners in 20th at 28:16.
Northfield’s Preston Moore placed 7th overall with a time of 19:08, Kourtland Pratt followed in 9th place with a time of 19:33, Bode Sorg ran a 20:59 followed by Jacob Nesler in 21:20, Pablo Rubio in 21:28, Gavin Lester in 21:56, Nate Hodson in 22:03, Logan Roark in 26:25 and Ray Swick in 33:00.
Kaleigh Rice took 2nd place over all with a time of 21:00, Shelia Smith ran a 22:26 for 5th place and Bristal Foust placed 14th overall and ran 26:00.
Both Northfield middle school cross country teams ran against Peru and Lewis Cass on Monday evening. Both teams ran great races placing 6 Northfield runners in the top 10.
In the boys race- Hudson Texeira took 2nd place running a 11:27, Gabriel Hyden placed 5th in 12:07, Declan Haupert placed 10th over all with a time of 13:23. Following our top 10 placers- James Nesler in 14:25, Bryson Sanders in 16:49, Braylon Frieden in 17:19 and Carson McClure in 19:12.
In the girls race- Audrey Hawkens placed 2nd over all in a time of 12:45, Brynley Rice took 3rd in 13:45, Kailynn Beeks placed 5th in 14:02. Following the top 10 placers in the girls race were Emma Steller in 16:34 and Faye Leffert in 17:48.
