Manchester Tennis Falls In Opener

The Manchester boys tennis team battled with visiting Mississinewa Tuesday night, Aug. 20, and couldn’t win the two 3-set matches they needed in a 4-1 loss to the Indians.

The No. 1 doubles team of Cole Henderson and Connor Trump cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 for Manchester’s only point.

The No. 2 doubles team of Milo Hupp and A.J. Weaver lost, 6-1, 6-1.

No. 1 singles player Caleb Struble-Hedstrom lost, 6-0, 6-1, to give Mississinewa a 2-1 lead.

Both Owen Harshman at No. 2 singles and Brendyn Mugford dropped their respective first sets, 6-2, but both battled back to win their second sets, Harshman, 6-3, and Mugford, 6-4, leading to two nail-biting third sets.

Harshman led, 5-4, in the third set but couldn’t put it away in a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 loss, and Mugford lost his third set to drop a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 match.

Adam Kerlin lost the only JV match of the night, 8-5.
