The Northfield Norsemen defeated the Southwood Knights 35-34 in a game that was not decided until the final seconds Friday.
The first score of the game came on a Maddux Daniels 23yd run with 4:37 left in the first to give Northfield a 7-0 lead. Just one minute late the Knights would answer with a Griffin Chambers 71yd run that was capped off with a two point throw to Bo Liddick to give Southwood an 8-7 lead after one.
The Norse would do all the scoring in the second quarter. Brayden Rice would score on a one yard run just 30 seconds into the quarter. The two point conversion was a success when Rice pitched to Daniels who threw to Jake Perney to make it 15-8. With 10:05 left in the half Kameron Pratt would pick off a pass and race 50yds to give Northfield a 22-8 halftime lead.
The Knights would control the third quarter. Chambers would break loose again, this time for 43yds to cot the Norse lead to 22-14 before Maddox Marshall intercepted a pass and out ran the Norse for 85yds to make it 22-20 after three.
Early in the fourth it looed as though the Norse were going to put the game away. Perney would score from 22yds before Pratt raced 45yds for a TD and a 35-20 Northfield lead with 5:48 to go. The Knights would respond, driving the field and scoring on a Chambers to Liddick 12yd strike. Chambers would then connect with Coan Holloway for the conversion and it was 35-28 with 2:10 to play. With 1:59 to play the Knights would force and recover a fumble on the Northfield 22 before Chambers and Liddick would hook up again from 11yds out to make it 35-34 after a failed two point conversion and 1:33 to play. The Knights would then execute on onside kick that was recovered by Owen Enyeart. After a offensive hold and a pass interference the Knights had the ball 4th and 13 with one minute to play. Chambers passed to the sideline with the receiver coming down out of bounds, securing the Northfield 35-34 win after running the clock out.
