Outside The County-Maconaquah

Results from Maconaquah for Thursday, August 28th.

The Lady Braves were at North Miami Thursday and fell in four sets 11-25, 17-25, 25-12, 24-26 for our first loss of the season. The Braves are now 6-1 and 1-0 in the TRC. The JV team showed signs of improvement but lost in two sets 14-25, 22-25.

Our first set was the worst volleyball I have seen all year. We made many unforced passing and hitting errors and allowed the Warriors to go on long service runs. I give North Miami credit, they are a good team and they had a rowdy student section that I believe had an impact on the girls and our communication errors. We started to turn around late in the second set and took that momentum into the third set. We won the third set in convincing fashion. A poor start in the fourth set had us playing from behind but we were able to rally and tie the score at 24 all. We dropped the last two points to stop our comeback and drop the match. That gave the North Miami student section a chance to do the classic “OverRated!” cheer as we walked off the court.

The Braves were led by Nekane Hernandez with 13 kills and Ireland Kile with eight kills on the match. Setter Delaney Betzner dished out 21 assists and dug up 20 balls on defense. Kile was our dig leader with 21 digs on the night. Setter Averie Maiben led us in aces with four aces and Senior Kaitlynn Bunch was our top blocker with four blocks.

Overall we were hustling for the ball and had several girls with good serves. We just need to capitalize on free ball opportunities. We are seeing great strides in improvement from last year and practices thus far and now know what we need to work on in order to compete at an even greater level against our next opponent on Tuesday. Game scores 19-25 and 16-25 Dena Salazar 4 service points with 2 aces, 2 kills, and 4 serve receptions Hattie Hatcher 7 service points with 2 aces, 2 assists, and a kill Adela Houlihan 4 kills and 4 assists Ruby Kintner 2 service points and 2 serve receptions
