The Southwood Lady Knights opened the season with a 53-44 win over Pioneer Tuesday.
The Knights struggled some in the first, trailing 16-15 after the first stop. Lola Winer and Hali Pershing carried the load in the quarter with Winer scoring 8 points in the quarter.
Trailing 21-19 early in the second the Knights would start to roll. Two straight buckets from Sophia Cline, followed by a three from Winer and two free throws from Sydney Leal put Southwood up 28-21. Cline would end the scoring with four more points as the Lady Knights led 32-26 at the half.
The third quarter was all Southwood. Cline, Pershing and Winer would lead Southwood in a 17-2 run that opened a 50-28 lead. Leal would add a free throw to give Southwood a 51-32 lead after three.
The Knights would get a bucket from Alivia Pershing to start the fourth quarter before Pioneer scored the last 12 points of the game for the 53-44 final.
