Hot Shooting Braves Stop Lady Norse

The Northfield Lady Norse fell to Maconaquah 56-54 Thursday.

After a good start the Norse struggled on defense, leaving the Braves open for multiple easy shots. Northfield jumped out to a 5-0 lead on a bucket and a free throw from Faith Krom and a bucket from Teagan Baer. After another Krom bucket made it 7-3 the defensive collapse began with Maconaquah scoring 11 straight to grab a 14-7 lead. Emma Wilson would stop the run with a bucket before another Braves three. Baer would bank in a half court shot at the buzzer, as the Norse trailed 17-12 after one.

Maconaquah would score the first points of the second quarter before the Norse offense got going. Down 19-12 Brynn Double would drain a three that was followed by a Baer steal for a bucket and a Baer three to put Northfield up 20-19. The Braves would come back to grab a 25-22 lead. Two Gemma Haupert free throws and another Baer three made it 27-27 at the half.

The Braves came out hot in the third quickly building a 35-28 lead. Ali Copeland would hit to make it 35-30 before Maconaquah scored the next 5 points to make it 40-30. A Laney Haupert three made it 40-33, but the Braves just kept shooting. Emily Miller and Baer would score before the end of the quarter as Northfield trailed 51-39.

Down 12, Haupert would hit a bucket to start the fourth quarter that ignited a 13-2 run that closed the deficit to 53-52 with a minute to play. During the run Baer and Miller would all hit buckets with Krom adding free throws. Maconaquah would then hold the ball, forcing the Norse to foul to create the 56-54 final.
