Cumberland Headed To State Swim Meet

Manchester’s Sophie Cumberland won the 100 freestyle at Saturday’s Warsaw swim sectional to punch her ticket to the state meet next week.

Cumberland led the race from wire to wire, touching the wall in a new personal best time of 56.20. Thirty minutes later she was back in the pool for the finals of the 100 backstroke where she finished second in a personal best time of 1:03.68. Competing in the consolation final of the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Jana Boladeres, Trinity Bradley, Kelzei Fox, and Laynen DeLaughter finished 10th in 2:15.75, knocking nearly 6 seconds off their time on Thursday night. Overall the girls finished in 11th place with 51 points. Cumberland will compete in the preliminary round of the 100 freestyle on Friday evening at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
