2013 Northfield Football Clinic Info

Northfield football coach Brandon Baker will be conducting the annual football clinic      

         the week of June 10-13 at Northfield High School.  Cost is $30 for the first child and

         $20 for all others in the same family.  Checks should be made payable to “Northfield

         High School.”  Clinic forms may be picked up at the NHS, Metro Elementary or

         Sharp Creek offices.  Forms should be dropped off at the NHS Athletic Office or

         sent to NHS “c/o Coach Baker”.

 

         Any boy entering grades 4-8 may attend.  The clinic will run from 6:00-7:30 pm each

Trae Cole Shoots 39 To Push Northfield To 13 Wins.

Northfield traveled to Warren to play Southern Wells on Tuesday night. The Norse got the win with a team score of 178 to Southern Wells 217. Leading the way was Trae Cole with a 3 over par 39. He was followed by Braydon Schindler 44, Andrew Eckerly 46, Austin Burns 49, and Taylor Poole 49. Other scores for the night was Jacob Terrell 55 and Trey Eads 58.

With the win, Northfield moves to 13-4-1 on the year.

Coach Terrell ” With the very windy conditions and only two of our guys ever playing the course before, I thought we had a respectable night. Trae Cole had a good round today playing a little old school golf.”

The JV also won 254 to 267, improving their record to 3-4.

Northfield plays their final match of the year at home Thursday against Pioneer at 5:00.

Girls Track Season Comes To An End

The girls track regionals were held Tuesday with athletes from Manchester and Northfield competing at Warsaw, while Southwood and Wabash were at Ft. Wayne.

No athlete from Wabash County made it out of the regional.

We will post complete county results Wednesday.

Richter/Beck Advance

Northfield’s #1 singles player Bayli Birk and #1 doubles team of Alyssa Richter and Leanne Beck traveled to Culver Academy to compete in the first round of regional in the individual portion of the IHSAA tennis tournament.  Bayli played Morgan Smith of Bremen and lost a tough match 0-6, 3-6.  Alyssa and Leanne faced the Whitko duo of Abby Marshall and Laura Alfieri and won 6-3, 6-2.  They will advance to the next round and play the Columbia City #1 doubles team tomorrow at Culver.  Beck’s and Richter’s season record now stands at 16-2.

Roser Grand Slam Sparks Norse

A first inning grand slam from Andy Roser sparked the Northfield offense to a 9-5 win over Belmont Monday.

In the first Colin Dawes led off with a walk. Adam Roser was then hit ny a pitch and followed by a Keaffaber infield single. Andy Roser the cranked a grand slam to give Northfield a 4-1 lead. Drake Richter rbi ground out scored Andy Maggart who had doubled and went to 3rd on an error (5-1).

Belmont would come back to score 3 runs in the top of the second. Colin Dawes would lead off the bottom of the inning with a home run, giving Northfield a 6-4 lead.

Andy Roser would single home a run in the 4th with brother Adam knocking in a run in the 5th. Andy Roser would triple in the 6th with Shane Vigar driving him home for the 9-5 win.

Ryan Keaffaber earned his 8th win in relief to move into a tie for #3 all-time in Indiana with his 43rd win of his career.

Andy Maggart pitched 3 innings allowing 4 runs, 2 earned on 6 hits. He struck out 3. Joseph Ross pitched a scoreless 7th allowing a walk and striking out one.

Keaffaber added 2 hits as did Adam Roser and Joseph Ross. Collin Dawes added a solo home run.

Lady Norse Fall In Sectional Opener

The Northfield Lady Norse softball team opened the sectional Monday, playing Lewis Cass at Cass. After taking an early lead, the Norse missed some scoring opportunities later to fall 4-2.

Heading to the top of the 3rd the game was scoreless when the Lady Norse struck first. Caitlin Eltzroth would hit a one out single and after a pop up, steal 2nd & 3rd. Abby Keaffaber came through with an rbi single to give Northfield a 1-0 lead. Aided by two Northfield errors, Cass would strike back scoring two in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 lead.

Cass would tack on a run in the 4th and one in the 6th to lead 4-1, with the Norse having one more shot.

In the top of the 7th Callie Monce started things off with a single and was followed by the shortstop booting a Caitlin Eltzroth grounder to put runners on 1st & 2nd with no outs. On the next ground ball, Monce was called for runner interference for the first out. After a fly out Emily Shafer came through with a single to drive Eltzroth home to make it 4-2 before a ground out ended the game.

The Norse had their shots, loading the bases in the 2nd with one out and again in the 6th with no outs without being able to plate a run. They also had two on with no outs in the 7th, scoring one.

Apaches Win Wabash Invite

The Wabash Apache golf team won the Wabash Invite at Honeywell Golf Course Saturday. Wabash fired a season low 326 on the backs of medalist Jordan Blair(73) and Jack Leland(79) to top Warsaw, which had 334.  Northfield finished 4th with 337, while Manchester was 6th with 383.

For Wabash, Jordan Blair was medalist of the invite with a 73. Jack Leland tied for second with a 79. Parker Harner and Josh Provance each fired an 87, while Jack Stein added an 88.

Northfield finished 4th, just one stroke behind Lewis Cass. The Norse were led by Trae Cole with an 80. Braydon Schindler fired 84, Austin Burns 86, Taylor Poole 87, Andrew Eckerly 94.

Manchester was led by Connor Eichenauer with a 93. Kiowa Harrell added 96, Austin Whitaker 97, Xzavier Whitaker 97, Noah Cain 104.

County Boys Headed For Regionals

The boys track sectionals were held Thursday with Northfield and Manchester traveling to Plymouth, while Wabash and Southwood headed for Marion.

At Plymouth :

Advancing for Manchester was Colin McNeeley 3rd in the 100, Mathew Fahs-Brown 4th 3200, Brodi Carter 2nd 110H, sectional champions 300H 43.40, 4th high jump, Gunner Ream sectional champion long jump 20′ 8 1/2”, 4th 110H, 2nd 300H, 4×100 sectional champions, 46.00 Colin McNeeley, Jacob Casper, Austen Oaks, Eric Knight, Cole Sellers 2nd Discus.

From Northfield advancing was 200:  Tyler Morgan  4th.  23.81, 800:  Devin Tracy 3rd  2:06, 1600:  Caleb Augustus 2nd 4:39 Devin Tracy 4th   4:41, 3200:  Caleb Augustus – Sectional Champion  9:53, 4×100:  Jonathan VanDuyne,  Tanner Wilcox, Heath Miller, Tyler Morgan  2nd  46.25, 4×400:  Marcus Kroh, Jonathan VanDuyne, Seth Frye, Tyler Morgan  3rd  3:38, 4×800:  Austin Andrews, Jonathan VanDuyne, Devin Tracy, Caleb Augustus  3rd  8:50

At the Marion sectional, From Southwood making it to regional was Michael Bowman (2nd Place – 800 Meter Run and Brett Wyatt – 4th Place – Shot Put). Both will be at Regional next week at Fort Wayne Wayne High School.

Making it from Wabash was Sam Hall (1600 – 3rd and 800 – 3rd)
