Lady Knights/Norse To Meet For Sectional Title

The Southwood and Northfield girls basketball teams left no doubt Friday who was the best two teams in the sectional. The lady Knights opened the evening defeating Frontier 56-27 before the Norse got revenge on Tri Central 74-28. The two teams will now play for the sectional title Saturday at 7:30.

In game one Southwood came out swinging and delivered a knock out punch in the first quarter. Erin Lehner led the charge with 6 points while Alissa Pershing and Morgan Farr chipped in 4 each. Southwood led 20-7 after the first stop.

The Knights continued their dominance in the second quarter, out scoring Frontier 10-2. Farr would lead with two buckets. Kayla Mays and Makenna Pace each added a bucket. Southwood led 30-9 at the half.

A small letdown came in the third when each team scored 13 points before the Knights gained control again in the fourth, winning the quarter 13-5 for the 56-27 win.

Maggie Ball – 2 pts, 3 rebs

In game two the Norse had revenge on their mind and got it big time. Going in as the sectional favorite last year the Norse were upset by Tri Central with the Norse getting their revenge Friday night.

Northfield set the tone right from the opening tip, scoring 6 points the first 30 seconds and raced out to a 21-7 first quarter lead. Ariel Dale would lead the charge with four buckets which included a three pointer for 10 points. Addi Baker added 6 points.

The defensive pressure the Norse can dish out caused havic for Tri Central and it continued in the second quarter. The Norse allowed just 6 points while scoring 18 as the lead grew to 39-13 at the half. Baker would hit three times with Emma Hoover adding a long ball. Kyra Kennedy chipped in two buckets.

The theme continued in the third with Dale draining a three with Kelcie Thomson adding 6 points. Again the Norse would allow just single digits as they took the quarter 16-9 for a 55-22 lead after three.

Northfield would have their second best offensive quarter in the fourth, scoring 19 points and again holding Tri Central to just 6. Dale hit her third three of the night with Thomson, Kennedy, Melanie Beery and Baker all chiming in as they cruised to the 74-28 win.

With the win the Norse will meet the Knights for the sectional title Saturday.
