The Northfield Lady Norse captured the sectional title Saturday over county rival Southwood 58-31. Ariel Dale led the Lady Norse attack, setting a new school record for career scoring.
The Knights would give the Norse all they wanted in the first. Northfield grabbed a 2-0 lead on a bucket from Kyra Kennedy before Sierra Stout put Southwood up 3-2 with a three pointer. Back came the Norse with an Addi Baker bucket before Allisa Pershing put the Knights up 5-4. Morgan Farr would then add two free throws and a bucket as the Knights led 9-4. the Norse would end the quarter scoring the last four points on free throws from Emma Hoover and Kennedy, plus a bucket from Ariel Dale to make it 9-8 after one.
After a Kelcie Thomson free throw to start the second, Dale and Thomson would hit back to back long balls as Northfeild grabbed a 15-9 lead. Stout would stop the run with a bucket before the Norse took off again, getting 11 points from Dale in the quarter while leading a 11-2 run for a 26-13 lead. Dale would finish the quarter with two buckets as the Norse led 31-15 at the half.
The two teams would trade buckets early in the third quarter and with the score at 38-21 Northfield would score 9 straight to open a 47-21 lead. Again it was Dale leading the charge as the Norse led 48-25 with a quarter to go.
The Norse would out score the Knights 10-6 in the final stanza with the highlight coming on Dale’s last bucket that gave her 26 for the nights and setting the all time scoring record at Northfield with 1292 points.
