Zebras Get Jaspered
The Rochester Zebras got Jaspered Friday at Wabash. Jasper Walter that is. Rochester controlled most of the game and led by 5 points heading to the fourth when Walter hit six three pointers and scored 20 points in the quarter to lead the Apaches to a 65-50 comeback win.
Wabash led 6-4 early in the first off a three and a two from Trenton Daughtry before Rochester ended the quarter on a 17-0 run that gave the Zebras a 21-6 lead after the first stop.
The Apaches would close the gap some in the second. Walter would hit his first of 8 three’s for the night followed by a Blake Gribben rebound bucket to make it 21-11. Wabash would cut the lead to 24-17 when Logan Vander Velden and Jared Holley hit. Down 28-17 Daughtry would score the final 6 points of the quarter as the Zebras led 28-23 at the half.
Rochester would hit back to back three’s to start the third quarter for a 34-23 lead before Vander Velden and Daughtry connected to make it 34-27. Down nine two Vander Velden free throws and a walter three made it 36-32. Wabash would get any closer in the quarter and trailed 41-36 after three.
Daughtry would start the scoring in the fourth and was followed by a Walter three to tie the score at 41. Rochester would answer with a bucket when Walter hit back to back bombs to give the Apaches a 47-43 lead. Leading 47-45 Daughtry would join Walter from behind the arch. At 50-46 a Daughtry bucket and Walter’s fourth three of the quarter increased the Wabash lead to 55-46. Dereck Vogel would grab a huge rebound bucket before Walter Jaspered the Zebras a fifth time in the quarter before draining his sixth in the 65-50 final.
Walter performance for the entire evening is worth noting. Walter hit 8 three’s in the varsity game and 3 in the junior varsity game
