Squires Stumble At Whitko
The Manchester Squires took the short jaunt to Whitko Tuesday, leading at the half before falling to the Wildcats 79-71.
Whitko would jump out to a 7-0 lead before the Manchester offense got going. Brayden Casper would drain a three and was followed by a Max Carter bucket to make it 7-5. Manchester trailed 15-12 when Weston Hamby tied the score with a three, then hit a 37 foot bank shot at the buzzer to put Manchester up 18-15 after one.
The Squires would build on their lead early in the second quarter, getting a three from Thane Creager and buckets from Carter and a three from Caleb Stout to go up 31-22. Whitko would work their way back, eventually tying the score at 36 before free throws from Carter and Hamby gave the Squires a 39-37 lead at the half.
Whitko would score the first five points of the third quarter to grab a 42-39 lead. The Squires would get free throws from Hamby and buckets from Logan Parrett and Carter to tie the score at 45. Whitko would continue to stay hot, increasing their lead to 58-52 before Carter stopped their run. Whitko led 60-54 after three.
The Wildcats continued to pound the ball inside to 6’7” Spencer Sroufe early in the fourth to build a 66-56 lead that the Squires made many runs at, getting the deficit to 3 points at one time but could never make the full comeback, falling 79-71.
The Manchester junior varsity came from behind to grab a 41-40 win.
