Knights Kick Off Cross Country Season At Terre Haute
The Southwood cross country teams kicked off their season Saturday at the Terre Haute Invite.
The meet was an unscored meet, recognizing the Top 20 Finishers with t-shirts. The Southwood Harriers traveled to Cross Country Town USA with anticipation as they had the opportunity to kickoff the season in a big way,
Braden Sweet will continue to lead the way for the Knights this season. He chased down top runners from Breuboff, Bloomington South, Jasper, and Terre Haute South to capture a 3rd place finish with a time of 16:34.
Jacob Marlow ran 2nd for Knights, finishing in a time of 20:07, his 2nd fastest time of his short cc career. He was followed by Brayden Smith (21:40), Weslee Nelson (21:47), and Nathan Lehner (21:57). We will be looking to for these 4 guys to continue dropping times, bridging the gap, and moving up as a pack to have a positive impact on team scoring this season. Skylar Amos and Devin Danzy will also be competing for the Knights this season.
Senior, Landon Topliff will be a key asset to the team throughout the 2019 season as he continues to grow into a leadership role, mentoring, encouraging, and coaching up his younger teammates. Both he and Weslee Nelson are the only seniors competing for the Knights. Landon is entering his 6th season as a member of the Southwood Cross Country Team and Weslee is entering his 3rd season.
Monica Hobson, Mariah Brown, and Aleia Sweet will be representing the Lady Knights throughout the 2019 season. Freshman Aleia Sweet led the group with a time of 24:13.
Monica Hobson, junior and 5 year cc veteran, started the season with a 27:08. New comer to the sport, Mariah Brown completed her first race in 27:42. The girls have set out goals for the season and look to improve with each new race opportunity.
