The Wabash High School boys cross country team competed in red division of the IWU Wildcat Invitational Saturday coming in 8th out of 15 teams.

Dereck Vogel was the first Apache to cross the finish line in 13th place. Blakley Cole was 47th, Caleb Callahan 55th, Jarrett Wilson 60th and Dave Ford rounded out the scoring with a 65th place finish. Callahan, Wilson, and Ford all ran lifetime PR’s in the meet plus Sophomore Ethan Kocher and Senior Wyatt Davis

In the JV race Jacob Fuchs, Lincoln Saldivar, and Jaxon Barnett ran lifetime PR’s as well.

The girls ran in the HS girls Grey Race with 123 other athletes.

Starting out fast for the team was Senior Angel Wehrly who finished 78th overall with a season PR of 25:23. Camille Kugler, a Senior, followed with a season PR of 25:46 and was able to take 84th place. Next for the team was Sierra Hall (Junior), taking 98th place and running a 27:20. Freshman Grace La Mar finished her race with a season PR of 28:20, while placing 104th.

The Wabash Middle School boys cross country team won the IWU Wildcat Classic Saturday afternoon with a score of 22 points.

In a field of 98 runners Troy Guenin-Hodson stood alone as the overall individual champion. Not be out be outdone, Kaden Vogel’s spectacular race put him right behind his teammate for a 2nd place finish. Trevor Daughtry led the rest of the Apache pack with an inspired 4th place finish. Chase Howard and Bobby Shull finished 7th and 8th to round out the team score.

Multiple Apache runners achieved lifetime PR’s including: Drew-Guenin Hodson, Colton Schuler, Jace Bullins, Coleson Kugler, Kasen Oswalt, Isaiah Cordes, Braxten Lakin, Kristian Stanton, Maverick Sommers, and Kaden Rosen.

The girls ran in the MS girls Varsity Race against 85 other athletes and placed 6th as a team.

First for the team was Ivy Beamer, a medalist for the day, with a personal best time of 14:31 and placing 34th over all. Audri Shidler followed in close behind with a season PR time of 15:16 placing 45th. Ashleigh Hadley came next with her season PR time of 15:31 placing 48th. Maya Howard trailed her teammates with a personal best of 16:04.5 placing 56th. Very close behind came Ava Bishir placing 57th with a seasonal PR time of 16:04.7. Olivia Shelton came in 69th place and running her personal best time with a 18:06. Karina Hernandez rounded out the team with a time of 22:53 and taking 83rd place. The girls placed 7th out of all the teams.
