ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Both DeMoines Whitney (Detroit, Mich./Western International) and CJ Hampton (Hammond, Ind./Griffith) tallied double-doubles on Friday night to help power the Manchester University Spartans past the host Webster Gorloks 72-67 on Friday night.

Hampton paced the Spartans (2-2) with 21 points and 11 boards on 8-of-13 shooting. Hampton made all four of his foul shots and added three steals and a pair of assists. Whitney scored in double figures for the fourth consecutive game, finishing with 12 points. Whitney added 13 rebounds.

Jalmen Sullivan (Hopkins Park, Ill./St. Anne) added 14 points and four three-pointers for the Spartans.

MU trailed 42-34 at the intermission but limited Webster to just 25 points in the second frame, outscoring the Gorloks by 13 points 38-25.

The Gorloks (1-4) got 30 points from senior guard Josh Johnson. Rodson Etienne added 14 points while Enrique Tankins scored 13 points.

Trailing a majority of the ballgame, graduate senior Keiton Hall (Lansing, Mich./Williamston) drained a three-pointer under the 2:00 minute mark to put the Spartans ahead 69-67. DeMoines Whitney would score the final three points for the Black and Gold as MU’s defense prevented the Gorloks from scoring the remainder of the game.

Manchester will take on Westminster (Mo.) tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT) to conclude the Webster Classic.
