Lady Apaches Soccer Cap Off Conference Play With A Shut Out

The Wabash Lady Apaches soccer team finished up their conference play Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Maconaquah.

The game remained scoreless and both teams continued to battle for possession and offensive opportunities. With just 10 minutes remaining in the game, senior Nici Gunderman found the back of the net off a beautiful assist from senior Sabine Thomas. Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Layne had 12 saves on the day to bring home another conference shutout.

The offensive charge was lead by senior Madi Lutz along with Ashley Province, Rylee Yoakum, Libby Mattern, Isabelle Davis and Gunderman. The Lady Apache defense lead by senior Morgan Mallow and junior Kiersten O’Neill as well as Kalista Ballshimdt, Kiana Jones, Abbie Boggs and were so solid, especially in the 2nd half to hold Maconaquah scoreless. Yoakum also stepped up with big defensive minutes for the Apaches.

Wabash finished conference play with a record of 4-1. The Lady Apaches move to 6-1-1 on the season and take the field again on Monday when they will face the Marion Giants at Marion at 6:00pm.
