Apaches Run In State Preview

The Wabash Apaches traveled down to Terre Haute on Friday night to be ready for the State Preview Invite Saturday morning.

Under ideal weather conditions, the girls started the 1A-3A school race with 78 athletes. The girls lit up the course, burning through the first mile with ease. Into the two mile, the girls were still ahead of their goal splits, attacking the third to beat the clock at the end by even more. The Apaches finished the race with all 3 of the athletes setting new season PRs.

First for the Lady Apaches was sophomore Calisen Kugler in 25th place with a season Pr of 24:02. Next for the Apaches came Grace La Mar, a junior, with a career PR of 26:24 in 43rd place. Rounding out the team was freshman Ivy Beamer coming in 53rd place with a career PR time of 27:53.

The MS Lady Apaches made the trek to Terre Haute early Saturday morning. With two out of the seven runners make their season debut, the girls were gifted with wonderful running weather. The girls toed the line with 83 athletes in their race. Powering through the course with speed, the Apaches hit their mile splits with ease. The trick was to keep up their position for the last .9 of the race. The girls came in clusters, fighting together to get through the final straight away to the finish. Their efforts landed them 8th as a team and a great race to remember their season by.

First for the Apaches was Raegan Jones, running her firs race of the season in 14:13 and coming in 33rd place. Quinn Myers came in close behind in 42nd place with a PR of 14:38. Ava Bishir ran her career PR of 14:48, coming in 3rd for the team abs 48th place overall. Next for the Apaches was Haylee Friend in 57th place with a time of 15:26. Bridget Bailey followed Friend in only 16 seconds behind her with a major PR time of 15:42. Bailey came in 59th overall. Allayna Renn finished her first ever cross country race with a time of 19:04 and taking 77th place. Emma Cantrell finished up for the team running a 24:45 and taking 83rd place.

The Wabash High School boys cross country team came into the State Preview Meet Saturday focusing on ending their first block of training well, using the race to sharpen their skills, and work on tactics. Chase Howard was the first Apache to cross the line in 114th place. Eli Callahan, Jace Bullins, Jonas Church, and Nick Perkins, Kasen Oswalt, and Braydon French were the rest of the top seven runners. With two months of the season left expect great things from the Apaches.

The Wabash Middle School boys cross country team came away with a 2nd place finish in the Middle School State Preview Meet Saturday in Terre Haute. Good weather, good competition, and a good course contributed to excellent times, as everyone that ran achieved a PR. Drew Guenin-Hodson was the first Wabash runner to cross the line in 5th place. Teammates Bobby Shull, Isaiah Cordes, and Ezra Church were not far behind in 10th, 11th and 12th place. Kamden Oswalt and Caidan Burchett also finished together in 18th and 19th place. Keaton Lane and Beckett Shaw finished around each other in 62nd and 66th place and Matt Niles came in 70th. There were a total of 89 runners in the field.

In the second race of the morning Coleson Kugler came away as champion. Treyce Daughtry was not far behind in 4th. Luke Kaufman came in 12th. There were 43 runners in the race.

It was an excellent day to run for the lady Apaches as they experienced the State Preview invitational. The Apaches will continue their season with their next meet coming on Saturday, September 11th at IWU.
