The Wabash boys earned their fifth win in six games by defeating Blackford 2-0 in a non-conference match-up at Alumni Field. Wabash dominated the offensive part of the game garnering 11 shots on goal to Blackford’s 2.

However, in the first half, Wabash struggled to get things going. Blackford’s aggressive play stymied the Apaches until a Sol France pass found Jacob France staring down the keeper. Jacob chipped the ball over the goalie and the teams could only watch as it bounced into the back of the net. Blackford got few good looks at the Wabash goal as the back line, led by Will Galley and Andrew Dinkins turned away the Bruins’ attack. Spencer Stout and Brodie Craft kept the Blackford wide player quiet throughout the game.

During the halftime break, Coach Benysh exhorted his team to dominate possession in the second half and the Apaches came out and did just that. Blackford struggled to get the ball from the Wabash midfielders. Kolton Wilson, Sol France, and Alvaro Martinez worked some nifty passing combos to move the ball away from the pursuing defense. The second goal of the game came when a Sol France pass knifed through the Bruins’ defense to catch a sprinting Troy Guenin-Hodson who calmly fired a shot past the keeper to double the lead.

Wabash closed out the game by dominating possession and frustrating the Blackford attack.

Greyson DeBoard ended the game with 2 saves. Sol France now has 6 assists. Jacob France leads the Apaches with 9 goals on the season. Wabash is now 5-3-1. They host TRC foe Peru at LH Carpenter next Tuesday for a 5:30 kickoff.
