Apaches Win First Ever Soccer Sectional Game
The Wabash Boys Soccer team earned its first ever sectional victory with a dominant performance over Lakeland Christian putting 5 goals on the score sheet.
Wabash made possession a priority in the first half and worked hard to deny Lakewood many touches on the ball. Wabash’s first goal came 13 minutes in as Jacob France received a penetrating pass from Sol France about 12 yards from goal and first timed it into the corner. Lakewood rallied in response and created their best scoring chances of the game in the next 15 minutes of play. Wabash put an end to all that in the last minute of the half when Jacob France headed a Sol France free kick past the keeper to put the Apaches up 2-0 going into the break.
In the second half Wabash raised the pressure on Lakeland. Four minutes in, Alvaro Martinez scored his first goal of the season by heading in a Troy Guenin-Hodson, cornerkick. The next goal was manufactured after Kolton Wilson survived a hard foul to get the assist as a crashing Devin Coffman put the ball in the goal. This was Coffman’s first career goal. Jacob France earned his second hat-trick of the season late in the game as he drove from midfield into the penalty box and scored his third of the match. Greyson DeBoard ended the night with 4 saves to complete the shutout.
Wabash will face the winner of the Lakewood Park and Blackhawk match. The Sectional Final will be on Saturday at 2 pm at Alumni Field.
