The Wabash boys soccer team won their first ever sectional Saturday, defeating Blackhawk Christian 1-0.

Both teams had periods where they dominated possession throughout the tight match. The Wabash Midfield of Sol France, Kolton Wilson and Alvaro Martinez, managed to set a tone of high pressure defense that forces Blackhawk to frequently turn over the ball. Andrew Dinkins and Will Galley worked in tandem as centerbacks to deny Blackhawks most potent offensive threats good chances at the goal. Greyson DeBoard made clutch saves under pressure in order to complete the shutout.

The turning point in the match came ten minutes into the second half when Sol France received the ball at the top of the 18, found a window in the defense and fired home the game-winner. Blackhawk turned up the pressure to try to get an equalizer int he last 30 minutes of the game, but Wabash’s defense was having none of it. Wabash consistently absorbed the pressure of the Blackhawk attack and then sprung crafty counterattacks through Wilson and Jacob France. DeBoard wrapped up the game with 8 saves.

Wabash will host Carroll (Flora) in the first round of regional on Thursday, 10/14 at 6 pm.
