Day One Of County Basketball Tournament
The first day of the Wabash County basketball tournament is in the books. Eight straight games filled the day.
In game one the Wabash and Manchester junior varsity girls kicked off the day with the Squires defeating the Apaches 31-14. Manchester scoring : Miller 7, Shannep 14, Smith 2, Schroll 8. Wabash scoring : Stumbo 3, Vail 3, Jones 4, Walter 4.
Game two was the Wabash and Manchester junior varsity boys locking horns. Wabash would lead the entire game to defeat Manchester 51-44. Wabash scoring : Cantrell 10, Grant 15, Dinkins 16, Eis 6, Price 4. Manchester scoring : Heath 3, Prater 17, Cooley 4, Eastgate 6, Torpy 7, Kline 4, Wagoner 4.
Game three pitted the Southwood JV Lady Knights against Rochester who was filling in for Northfield. Rochester led by 5 at the half before defeating the Knights 34-25. Southwood scoring : Finney 2, Collins 2, Huffman 8, Drake 2, Garrison 2, Barney 6, Claussen 2.
The Southwood and Northfield boys played the final game of the junior varsity round. The Norse led 17-9 at the half before the Knights came back for the 31-26. Southwood scoring : Wyatt 6, Metzger 5, Hamilton 7, Boone 3, Denny 3, Rody 7. Northfield scoring : Rodgers 8, Hoffman 3, Baer 6, Carpenter 8, Burkhart 1, Shaw 9.
The Southwood and Northfield girls would get the varsity session started. The Lady Knights led the Norse 29-23 at the half and extended the lead for a 61-50 win. Southwood scoring : Haupert 25, Drake 2, Winer 8, Sweet 10, Wyatt 11. Northfield scoring : Rosen 3, Dale 3, Hoover 3, Pennington 10, Baker 12, Holmes 15
Up next was the Southwood and Northfield boys. Tied at the half the Knights would out score the Norse by 4 to win 45-41. Southwood scoring : Lehner 7, Smith 8, W. Winer 6, C. Winer 3, Stout 12, Oprisek 5. Northfield scoring : Treska 2, Peas 8, Halderman 2, Kroh 14, Burkhart 10, Krom 5.
Wabash and Masnchester would battle it out in the final girls game of the day. Close the entire game the Lady Apaches would pull off a 42-41 win. Wabash scoring : Mattern 13, Province 2, Layne 2, Wilson 2, Stumbo 3, Yoakum 12, Long 2, Cordes 6. Manchester scoring : Atienza 5, Buzzard 12, Creager 8, Lauer 4, West 7, Meyer 5.
The last game of the night was the Wabash and Manchester boys. The Apaches got 29 points from Trevor Daughtry in a 63-49 win over the Squires. Wabash scoring : Daughtry 29, Dinkins 2, G. Ford 5, Wilson 8, D. Ford 5, Wright 12, Learned 2. Manchester scoring : Rickerd 11, McLain 6, Hendrix 8, Betten 22, Zur Nieden 2
