Manchester Boys Soccer Dominates Peru
Manchester Boys Varsity soccer started their season on Thursday with a dominating 9-0 victory over Peru.
Michael Ortiz started the scoring with an unassisted goal just under five minutes into the game. Then, at the midpoint of the first half, Tyler McLain went on a scoring spree, notching three goals in under five minutes. Brayden Sanson assisted on one goal and Nathaniel Miller on the other two. The back line of the Squires, including starters Trevor Heath, Dylan Hernandez, Traceson Gearhardt, and Evan Martynowicz played a strong half, allowing only one shot on goal by Peru.
In the second half, again Ortiz started the scoring, scoring within the first minute, assisted by McLain. Four more goals followed by Kolby Haecker, McLain, Miller and Wyatt Young. Assists were credited to Jose Hernandez and Ortiz on two of the goals. Young’s goal, which came with 6 minutes remaining in the game, ended the contest under the 9 goal “mercy rule”. A highlight of the game was Kolby Haecker’s goal. After Roberto Iaione was taken down inside Peru’s 18, Manchester was awarded a penalty kick. Haecker, Manchester’s goalkeeper, ran the length of the field from his own goal to the other penalty spot to step up and calmly take the PK, burying his shot high in the back of the net. The Squires outshot Peru 26-2 in the game. 22 players played in the game for Manchester.
