The Manchester Squire Varsity Volleyball team lost a tough 5 set match up on Thursday night against the host Golden Eagles of Oak Hill High School.

The Squires started strong, coming out firing on all cylinders, winning the first set by a score of 25-13. The Golden Eagles wouldn’t go away and battled back to tie it up at one set a piece.

The match stayed competitive in the 3rd and 4th sets with both teams attacking aggressively and looking to keep each other off guard with timely tips. The Squires looked to be in control late in the 4th set until Oak Hill went on a run to tie the game at 2 sets a piece.

The Squires couldn’t seem to string together any points in the 5th set and ended up losing the final set by a score of 7-15.

McKelvey Espeset and Olivia Davis led a balanced hitting attack with 8 kills each. Espeset also recorded 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists. Hadley West played a strong all around game from the back row with 9 assists, 4 aces, 12 serve receptions, and 14 digs. Paxton Baker led the Squires with 20 digs on the night.

The Varsity Lady Squires travel to Elwood High School for a 4 match tournament on Saturday.
