The Wabash Apaches opened the 2022-2023 season with a tough loss to Maconaquah Friday night.

The Apaches were unable to overcome drops and turnovers as they failed to capitalize on opportunities. “Nothing on film is going to convince me that they are a better team. We let this one get away from us,” new Coach Ryan Carmichael told the team after the game.

There are many things to build on from this first game. Quarterback Izaak Wright continued his growth from last season and is primed to lead the Apaches air game. Keaton Fields scored all three of the teams touchdowns as he caught two for the Apache offense and returned an interception for a third score.

Defensively, Colin Price and Aidan Patton put pressure on the Braves quarterback all night. Sophomore Caden Carmichael anchored the middle of the run defense while Izaak Wright finished a ton of plays. Wabash travels to Alexandria next week.
