The Wabash girls soccer team edged Rochester 3-2 Tuesday.

The Apaches came out strong with offensive pressure and senior Rylee Yoakum putting away her first of her hat-trick goals off a senior Hannah Layne punt. Wabash continued the offensive pressure with shots from junior Natalie Adams, junior Maddie VonUhl and junior Irma Robles along with Yoakum. The Lady Apaches were also able to keep the Lady Zebras off the scoreboard with an incredible first half performance in goal by Hannah Layne and defensive pressure from senior Abbie Boggs, junior Kiana Jones, sophomore Macy VonUhl, senior Libby Mattern, freshman Jaycee Jones and good minutes from sophomore Gracie Napier. Layne finished the game with 22 saves. Coming into the 2nd half up 1-0,

Yoakum found the back of the net for her 2nd goal off an Irma Robles assisst to put the Apaches up 2-0. In the last 10 minutes of the game, Rochester continued their offensive opportunities and found the back of the net 2 times to tie the game 2-2. As the minutes counted down, the Lady Apaches continued to work the ball up with fantastic service from sophomore Kait Honeycutt and we had several near misses in the last couple of minutes. With about 30 seconds left in regulation, senior Rylee Yoakum won the ball on the defensive line, serviced herself with a flick over the line and found herself 1-1 with the Zebra’s goalkeeper. Yoakum buried the shot with just 4.7 seconds left in the game and the Lady Apaches hold on to the TRC win! Wabash is now 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in the TRC. The Apaches are at home again on Thursday at 6:00 vs TRC opponent Peru.
