The Maconaquah Lady Braves varsity golf team saw their head to head record improve to 9-0 on the season after a win at Bear Slide Golf Course over Hamilton Heights and Lewis Cass.

Sophomore Daisy Williams won medalist after carding a 40. Daisy didn’t get off to the best of starts after her tee shot on her opening hole went left (the players did not have time to warm up before the match) but she was her usual self hitting fairways and greens the rest of the way. She also showed great course management skills on her last hole by laying up with a short iron and hitting another short iron into the green instead of risking going into a bunker or high grass with her driver. Junior Miranda Stoll’s hard work on her game paid off again as she shot a 43 in the match. To show how high Miranda’s expectations are, despite shooting a 43 on the challenging track and tying for second on the evening, she was not happy with her final score. Here’s predicting that Miranda will earn all conference honors in a few weeks. Senior Courtney Stoll bounced back from a challenging round on Wednesday night to card a 46 on Thursday night. Courtney’s shots have been drifting a bit right recently, but she still figured out a way to score and finish fourth overall in the match. Sophomore Finley Dobbs hit the ball well on the evening, but had some trouble on the hard and fast greens. Finley’s chips just ran about 5 feet longer than she wanted, making the putts that much more challenging. Her 58 was good enough for fourth on the team. Senior Lehna Wagner’s round got off to a bad start as her par putt on her first hole lipped out and so did her bogey putt. That set the tone for the rest of the round as she struggled with the fast greens and tall heather grass. She did have two pars during the round and finished with a 59. Not having time to warm up affected Lehna as she likes to build up confidence in her game before heading out onto the course.

Maconaquah won the three way duel by shooting a 187. Hamilton Heights carded a 214 while Lewis Cass finished with 236. This was a varsity only match.

The Lady Braves are off for a few days before facing conference foes Rochester and Tippecanoe Valley on August 30th at Round Barn Golf Course.
