Southwood XC Runs Well At Marion

The Southwood cross country teams ran in the Marion Invite Saturday.

The Knight Harriers competed at IWU on Saturday at the Marion Invitational. Historically, this meet has provided excellent competition, fast races, and early season breakout performances. With that in mind, the Knights were physically and mentally prepared to attack this race.

Starting out the season by setting two consecutive PR’s, Luke Andrews raced after yet another one, breaking through the 19’s and setting a new personal best of 18:52.9 and finishing 39th in a field of 131 runners.

Also competing for the Knights was Landon Mitchell and Devin Danzy. Both young men had season best performances. Landon finished in a time of 19:50.2, placing 62nd overall. Devin finished with a time of 21:27.4.

Jaiya Corn represented the Lady Knight Harriers at the Marion Invite at IWU on Saturday. Jaiya covered the distance in a time of 24:33.6, setting a new PR by 43 seconds. Jaiya finished 43rd in a field of 98 runners.

On Saturday, the middle school girls’ team competed in the Marion Invitational at Indiana Weslyan University. Out of fifteen teams, they placed sixth, with 189 points. Other team finishers included Norwell (1st, 52 points), DeKalb (2nd, 113), Monroe Central (3rd, 115), Edgewood (4th, 120), Oak Hill (5th, 176), Adams Central (7th, 192), Wes-Del (8th, 216), Southern Wells (9th, 218), Lakeview (10th, 222), McCulloch (11th, 287), Delta (12th, 303), Wisdom Builders (13th, 347), Northwestern (14th, 357), and Eastern (15th, 366).

Individually, Shelby Thomas placed 9th with a season best time of 12:50. Paige Nelson placed 10th in 12:52, also a season best. Ava Stouffer placed 38th with a season best time of 14:10. Olivia Ranck placed 57th, finishing in 15:02. Ellie Simpson placed 133rd with a season best time of 19:29. Karson Ward placed 147th in 20:52, another season best. There were 162 total runners competing.

The middle school boys took to the Indiana Weslyan University cross country course on Saturday to compete in the Marion Inviational. Team scores were DeKalb (1st place, 68 points), Norwell (2nd, 93), McCulloch (3rd, 143), Monroe Central (4th, 146), Northwestern (5th, 181), Edgewood (6th, 183), Tri-Central (7th, 195), Lakeview (8th, 211), Delta (9th, 227), Maconaquah (10th, 228), Oak Hill (11th, 261), Wes-Del (12th, 280), Eastern (13th, 288), Southern Wells (14th, 330), Eastern Hancock (15th, 353), and Wisdom Builders (16th, 483). Southwood did not have enough runners to score as a team.

On the individual side, Zander Chellis finished 38th with a career personal best time of 12:39. Andrew Wright finished 63rd in 13:34. Luc Neal finished 154th with a time of 17:24. There were 183 total runners.
