Wabash Girls Soccer Tops Blackford

The Wabash Lady Apaches pick up a big non-conference win over Blackford with a score of 3-0.

Senior goalkeeper Hannah Lanye had a solid night in goal with 6 saves and earned another shutout. Contributing to the defensive shut was senior Abbie Boggs, junior Talia Carrillo, freshman Jaycee Jones, senior Libby Mattern, junior Kiana Jones and freshman Andi Stout. K. Jones had fantasic distritution to the offense the entire game, including multiple Apache corner kicks. Mattern also did a tremendous job holding down the center of the field for Wabash. Senior Rylee Yoakum earned the first Apache goal with a fantastic volley off an assist from junior Irma Robles.

Coming into the 2nd half up just 1-0, Wabash came out in the 2nd have very strong. Sophomore Kait Honeycutt continued to win 50/50 out of the air and dispributed and passed with such patience and composure to keeping the Apaches very offensive. Yoakum’s 2nd goal came of a Robles shot and Yoakum perfectly timed her crash to put it into the back of the net. The 3rd Wabash goal came off a corner kick attempt and as Blackford’s defense looked to clear it out, senior Libby Mattern sent back an amazing left-foot shot to the far corner of the goal soaring over the goalkeeper’s hands to put it away in the top right corner! Junior Natalie Adams, K. Jones, Mattern, Yoakum, Honeycutt and Robles all put shots on goal tonight for the Lady Apaches. Sophmore Gracie Napier also provided fantastic minutes for offensively and defensivley for Wabash. Wabash improves to 7-2 on the season and 4-1 in the TRC. The Lady Apaches are back in action on Tuesday at Maconaquah for their final TRC matchup of the season.
