The Bell stays home tonight as the Death Valley Football team defeated the Rochester Zebras 26-17 in a very competetive matchup. Both teams came into the game undefeated but the Zebras were unable to get past the Wrecking Crew Defense.

Valley pinned the Zebras inside the five on the opening kickoff and stalled the Zebras first drive forcing a punt after only five plays. The Vikings were able to score two plays later after a 47 yard pass from Junior Wade Jones to fellow Junior Nate Parker. The Zebras were able to answer back with a field goal making the score 6-3 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was back and forth starting with a 23 yard pass from Junior Cody Eastgate to Junior Landon Durkes for six. Freshman kicker Gage Overby tacked on the extra point to make it 13-3 with 5:42 to go in the half. Rochester was able to score a few minutes later off a 5 yard run from Alex Deming. The extra point made the score 13-10 at the half.

Valley extended their lead in the third after a 7 yard run from Junior Dalton Alber followed by the extra point from Overby. Deming was able to find the endzone again on a 1 yard carry and a successful PAT to make 20-17 going into the nail-biting 4th quarter.

The lone score in the fourth came from Nate Parker on a 4 yard run. The PAT was blocked making it 26-17. As Rochester marched down the field late in the game, Nate Parker sealed the deal with an interception in the final few minutes.

Overall, the Vikings picked up 323 total offensive yards, 227 on the ground and 96 through the air. Valley picked up 18 first downs and converted on third 7 out of 11 attempts.

The Wrecking Crew Defense once again stepped up tonight as they held the Zebras to 151 total yards, 108 on the ground and 43 through the air. The front line held their own only allowing two third conversions on nine attempts.

Nate Parker led the team in tackles with 7 and had the interception to put the nail in the coffin. Landon Durkes had 5 solo tackles including 3 for loss. Wade Jones racked up 5 solo tackles as well.

The Vikings improve to 5-0 on the season and 4-0 in the TRC. Valley will be in action next Friday as they travel to Whitko to take on the Wildcats starting at 7:00 PM.

The New Prairie Invitational never disappoints,a very well run meet with great competition. Weather was fantastic.

We had 32 teams in our races. All the kids had good runs some better then others. This meet give us a good look at what’s to come as we get closer to conference and post season

The boys team continues to get a little stronger with each meet. Still have some things to work on. But they are coming around at the right time of the season.

The girls are also looking stronger too. Senior Talia Holder looks to be getting her stride back and her times are coming back to whats she’s is capable of running. Sophomore Bailey Bussard and Freshman McKenna Lowe continue to fight to better one another.
Junior Chesnee Miller also continues to run well she finished 13 out of 184 participants.

Great job kids!! Keep working hard and you will be rewarded for the effort.

Next meet is the New Haven classic Saturday September 24 at Huntington University’s cross country course.
