Manchester Swimming Splits With Rochester

The Manchester swim teams split with Rochester Thursday.

Despite several season best performances and close races, the Squire boys lost to Rochester 116-46 on Thursday night. Cale Bennett took Manchester’s lone first place by winning the 100 freestyle and breaking the one-minute barrier for the first time. Bennett teamed up with Liam York, Robbie Iaione, and Caden Marcum to take first in the 400 freestyle relay. Liam York switched to some of his off events and took second in both the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. Tristan Schmid took second in the 100 breaststroke. Bennett, York, Iaione, and Schmid finished second in the 200 medley releay. Manchester will host Elwood on Monday night.

Manchester rode strong swims from the entire lineup to their first win of the season. After giving up 13 points to Rochester in diving, the Squires won 9 of the 11 swimming events and got great efforts from their 2nd and 3rd swimmers to cruise past Rochester on Thursday night with a score of 101-72. The 200 medley relay team of Hannah Eberly, Rachel Garcia, Noelle Walt, and Sophie Anglin opened the swimming portion of the meet with a victory. Wynter Harris, Evyn Fox, Adia Selleck, and Sveva Cattaneo picked up valuable points by finishing third. In the 200 freestyle, Hannah Eberly finished a close second with a lifetime best time and Miriam Struble-Hedstrom finished 4th. Josie Briner cruised to an easy victory in the 200 IM and Gracie Dale had a good race to finished 3rd. After Noelle Walt and Sophie Anglin took 2nd and 3rd in the 50 freestyle, Manchester rattled off victories in the next seven events. Rachel Garcia and Adia Selleck took 1st and 2nd in the 100 butterfly. Eberly, Walt, and Anglin went 1-2-4 in the 100 freestyle with Eberly lowering her personal best time by a second. Briner then cruised to an easy victory in the 500 free before jumping right back in the pool to anchor the winning 200 freestyle relay team, erasing a 10 yard lead by the Rochester team. The 200 freestyle relay team of Sveva Cattaneo, Lllie Meyer, Laynen DeLaughter, and Sofia Siano took 3rd. Miriam Struble-Hedstrom kept the Squire win streak alive by taking first in the 100 backstroke with Wynter Harris and Liilli Meyer finished 3rd and 4th. Rachel Garica took first in the 100 breaststroke and Evyn Fox and Gracie Dale took 3rd and 4th. In the meet’s final event, the 400 freestyle relay, the team of Briner, Eberly, Waltz, and Garcia won easily and the team of Selleck, Struble-Hedstrom, Fox, and Dale finshed second. Manchester will be back in action on Monday when they host Elwood.
