The Manchester boys high school team opened their 2023 season against Oak Hill and Southwood finishing 2nd behind a state ranked Oak Hill team. Kyler Dale led the way in 5th place. Clark Showalter started the season with a career PR by running nearly 1 minute faster than last year’s best time. Freshman Jet Thomas ran a solid race to finish 5th for Manchester.

The Lady Knights opened their cross country season with a triangular event facing Oak Hill and Manchester.

Shelby Thomas gave a solid performance in her opening debut as a varsity runner. Finishing in 6th place overall in a field of 26, she worked to overtake opponents 1 by 1 from the blast of the gun to the finish line.

Jaiya Corn, veteran junior runner, finished in 15th place in a time of 25:54.

Olivia Ranck, another freshman racing for the 1st time as the varsity level, completed the course in 28:05 and finished in 22nd.

Oak Hill and Manchester set the pace, running in a pack through the first half of the race. Leading the way for the Knights were junior Luke Andrews and freshman James Unger. Senior, Landon Mitchell, stayed on their heels through the first mile before trailing off.

In a field of 21 runners, Unger crossed the line first for the Knights, finishing 8th overall in a time of 19:00. Andrews finished 10th in a time of 19:31. Fighting through significant leg cramps, Mitchell managed to cross the finish line 18th.

Also competing for the Knights was freshman, Andrew Wright. Wright finished 19th overall in a time of 24:02.

The Knights look to add Ryan Deeter in the near future, which will round out the squad and provide the opportunity to compete as a team moving forward.
