Results from Tippecanoe valley for Friday, August 18th

Tonight was the beginning of the 2023 Death Valley Football season! The Vikings left Syracuse with a win 23-12 to start 1-0 on the year.

Valley took the lead in the first quarter thanks to 26 yard field goal from sophomore Gage Overbey. After a hard fought first quarter, the Vikings added to their lead in the second quarter after a 27 yard TD run from Junior Brock Derf followed by an Overbey PAT. Overbey then showed off his leg power again after putting a 46 yard FG through the uprights to make it 13-0 at the half.

Overbey was able to kick the lone score in the third off a 27 yarder to keep the Warriors scoreless 16-0 at the end of the third. The fourth quarter saw Junior Asher McGriff intercept a pass and take it to the house. Overbey followed up with the PAT to give the final score of 23-12 at the end of night after two TD passes by the Warriors.

Offensively, Senior Nate Parker led the way with 19 carries for 78 yards. Junior Fullbacks Grady Moriarty and Brock Derf shared backfield duties with Moriarty rushing for 72 yards on two attempts and Derf gaining 48 yards on 5 attempts.

It was Pick City for the Wrecking Crew Defense as Asher McGriff and Wes Parker each had an interception and Wade “Drago” Jones nabbed two picks to add to his career school record total.

The Vikings are back in action next week against rival Rochester in the “Battle for the Bell” The Vikings look to defend The Bell which has been safe at home for the last five years. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm at Rochester. Ticket Information can be found on the athletic website and social media account.
