The Wabash boys soccer team fell to Maconaquah 7-1 Saturday.

It was a rough outing for the short-handed Apaches as they faced a talented Maconaquah squad in the first TRC match-up of the season. Maconaquah used their speed on the outside to jump in front 2-0 about 15 minutes into the game. The Wabash defense tightened up to slow them down before Will Galley connected on free kick from 25 yards out that he bent into the side netting. Maconaquah scraped back a late goal at the end of the first half to go into the break up 3-1.
The second half was played pretty evenly but the Braves continued to use their aerial superiority to send threatening headers at the Wabash goal off of corners and free kicks. As the game wore on, Wabash’s short bench led to fatigued players and more goals for Maconaquah. Solid play from Derek Reed, Jose Robles, and Ty Carpenter highlighted in this one-sided affair. First-time Goalkeeper Caleb Daugherty recorded a school record 19 saves as he was forced to make stop after stop.

Wabash returns to action Tuesday against Tipp Valley at LH Carpenter Field.
