VolleyKnights Impressive On Hall of Fame Night

The Southwood VolleyKnights defeated Peru 25-14, 25-6, 25-9 Thursday. Between the junior varsity and varsity match coach Tom Finicle was inducted into the IVBCA Hall of Fame.

The Knights would start slow in the first set, leading just 6-5 when things started to change. A kill from Allie Haecker and an ace from Grace Drake got the Knights rolling as they built their lead to 17-9. Peru would make it 17-12 before Drake recorded back to back kills and was joined by Hali Pershing with a block. Southwood took the first set 25-14.

In the second set Southwood was trailing 5-3 when Shania Rhamy went on a serving exhibition. Rhamy would serve 21 straight points that included 7 aces to give the Lady Knights a 23-5 lead before winning 25-6. During the run Pershing, Haecker and Drake each had kills.

Another slow start had Southwood down 3-2 in the third set when they caught fire with Carley Whitsel serving. Whitsel recorded two aces while Rhamy had two kills and the lead grew to 8-3. After a trade of series and the Knights leading 13-6 Pershing and Mylah Dillon would get kills as the lead grew to 19-8. Up 22-9 a Rhamy kill and two Dillon aces sealed the 25-9 win.
