Lady Squires Soccer Defeats Lady Apaches In Shoot Out

The Wabash and Manchester girls soccer teams went through 40 minutes of regulation and 14 minutes of overtime before the Lady Squires won 2-1 on penalty kicks shootout.

The first half was back and forth but no one could find the back of the net. After halftime, Brookelynn Buzzard scored the first goal off a cross from Samantha Shock. Wabash countered halfway through to tie up the game 1-1 on a goal from Kait Honeycutt.

The Lady Squire defense led by Addison Brubaker, Maggie Onderko-White, Karsyn Kamphues, Molly Schannep, and Chase Blevins held strong through two overtimes. Campbell Bolinger, Samantha Shock, Aymia Miller, Ava Sautter, and Hanna Stout had great shots on goal but couldn’t finish. During the first round of the shootout, Ava Baker and Ava Sautter found the net to tie the first round 2-2. During a sudden death round two, Hanna Stout and Chase Blevins hit their shots to keep the Lady Squires alive. Grace Smith blocked Wabash’s 3rd PK attempt and Brookelynn Buzzard finished the game with her PK. Grace Smith had a great night with 6 total saves, including 3 PK saves.

Junior goalkeeper had an incredible game from start to finish, having 18 saves and a big penalty save to keep the team alive. Junior Graci Napier played strong the entire game, controlling the center of the field and distributing for offensive opportunities. Senior Kiana Jones held the defense strong and provided great service to the team the entire game. Sophomore Jaycee Jones also provided very strong defensive minutes for the Lady Apaches.

Wabash plays Lapel in non-conference play on Thursday at home at 6pm on Alumni Field.
