15 Death Valley Football beats Culver Academy 59 – 28

For only the 5th time in school history, Death Valley picked up a win against Culver Academy with a 59 – 28 victory to improve to 5-0 on the year.

It was a huge night for Death Valley and the Wrecking Crew as they put together one of the best games in Valley history. The Vikings totaled 413 rushing yards, and 205 passing yards, for a total of 618 yards, the best of the season thus far. Ten different players got to touch the ball and contribute to the stat lines tonight. This of course could not happen without the front line getting the job done up front against the best defense they’ve seen so far this year.

The first half was a slugfest with the first punch being thrown by Grady Moriarty on a 74 yard run. CMA responded with a 1 yard rush and the PAT to make it 6-7 at the end of the 1st. The 2nd quarter saw five total scores as the Vikings and Eagles continued to go punch for punch. Nate Parker took a break from his rushing attack to throw an 88 yard TD pass to Wade “Drago” Jones. Landon Durkes picked up the 2pt conversion off a quick pitch to give Valley the 14-7 lead. After two consecutive CMA scores, Nate Parker put on the jets on a 60 yard TD run followed by the PAT from Gage Overbey. Parker then decided to get his hands into the receiving game on a 81 yard TD pass from Cody Eastgate. After the Overbey PAT, Valley held a 28-21 lead at the half.

After a much needed competitive first half, it was all Valley in the second half. Nate Parker picked up two more scores off a 17 yard TD run and a 36 yard TD run. CMA was able to find the endzone one more time but the Vikings answered back quickly thanks to a 1 yard Moriarty TD run. Overbey had the lone score in the 4th quarter with a 34 yard field goal.

On the defensive side, the Wrecking Crew front seven had a stellar night only allowing the Eagles 41 rushing yards on 26 attempts. CMA was able to attack in the passing game but Wade “Drago” Jones and Owen Omondi were both able to walk away with picks.

The Vikings improve to 5-0 on the year and look to extend their winning streak next week at home against future conference opponent, Jimtown. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm on Smith Bibler Memorial Field.
