Maconaquah Boys Soccer Ends Season in Sectional Penalty Kick Shootout

The boys soccer team Sectional game against Western came down to a Penalty Kick shootout after ending regular time tied 3-3. Unfortunately for the Braves, they came up a little short after the 6th Penalty kick and Western will advance.
The game started out strong with Nolan Jones getting the scoring started seven minutes into the game off a Corey Nord corner kick. This was Nolan’s first game back after an injury and missing 6 games. The Panthers evened the score shortly after, off a direct free kick header. The lead swung back to Maconaquah on the next corner kick though as Nord found Jones again for a header to the back of the net. Western answered with two more goals before halftime to take a 3-2 lead.

The second half defense tightened up for the Braves and on the 3rd corner of the game for the, Nord again found Jones for a header, but the shot was blocked and Joseth Manueles was able to scramble and get the put back goal with less than ten minutes left in the game. Both teams were gassed for the remainder of the regular time and were held scoreless for the overtime, which led to the Penalty Kick shootout.

The PK’s started out well with Jones making a diving block on the Panthers first shot, followed by Isaac Lorenz burying his attempt. Both the Western player and Bennett Isenburg made the next two attempts. The third Western shot found the net, but Maconaquah’s shot was blocked leaving the teams tied at 2 goals after 3. The next two Western players landed shots as did Ryan Ousley and Kyler Hanson. After 5 shots each with the scored tied, the game comes down to a sudden win situation. The Western player scored, but the Mac shot sailed high, securing the win for the Panthers.

Overall, the Braves had a fantastic season winning 14 games and losing just 2 in the regular season. The team also won the TRC championship for the third time in 4 season and scored 66 goals and gave up only 9. The Maconaquah fans should be very proud of this team and the achievements they made on and off the soccer field.
