OHXC Lady Eagles Advance to the Regional with Sectional Runner Up Finish – Travis, Highley, Rowland All Earn Top 20 All Sectional Honors

The OHXC Lady Eagles advanced to the IHSAA Regional round for the 16th straight season behind a strong Runner Up finish at Saturday’s IHSAA Marion Sectional. The Lady Eagles scored 64 points to take 2nd ahead of Marion at 73 and behind a tough Yorktown team who won the team title with 49 points.

The Top 5 teams all advance to the IHSAA New Haven Super Regional next Saturday October 21st to compete for a trip to the IHSAA State Finals. This is the first season of the IHSAA’s new tourney format that consists of only 3 rounds instead of the traditioanl four. In the new format the Regional and Semi State will now be combined with the IHSAA Tourney Series being comprised of a Sectional-Regional-State Finals.

Lady Eagle Sophomore Biruk Travis battled up front all day attempting to defend her 2022 individual Sectional Title ultimately taking 2nd place overall to earn All Sectional Honors. Senior Leah Highley 9th and Sophomore Sophia Rowland 17th both also earned All Sectional Honors respectively.

Junior Audrey Woodard finished 22nd, Freshman Erika Newhouse 29th, Junior Abby Sneed 33rd, and Sophomore Lydia Trexler 40th to round out the Lady Eagle’s varsity line up.

The IHSAA New Haven Semi State will be held at The Plex in Fort Wayne.

OHXC Golden Eagles Win 4th Sectional Title in 5 Years – Jackson & Sweet Go 1-2 Individually

The OHXC Golden Eagles fought off strong efforts from Marion and Yorktown to win their 4th IHSAA Marion Sectional Championship in the last 5 seasons. Behind a 1-2 finish from Seniors Owen Jackson and Trenton Sweet the Golden Eagles scored a low 41 points to outdistance 2nd and 3rd place by over 20 points. It was the 19th IHSAA Sectional Title in the boys program history.

With their newest title the OHXC Program as a whole has now won a IHSAA Sectional or IHSAA Regional title for 8 consecutive seasons. It also marked the 22nd straight season the Golden Eagles advanced out the Sectional round.

Jackson’s 1st place finish was his 2nd IHSAA Sectional Individual title of his career and only 2nd Golden Eagle individual champion since 2007. Jackson and Sweet also went 1-2 last year. Joining Jackson and Sweet on the All Sectional Team were Top 20 Finishers Sophomore Corban Tippey 8th, Sophomore Brayden Sommers 12th, and Senior Toby Sneed 18th.

Freshman Kyle Brower finished 24th while Senior AJ Austin rounded out the varsity runners in 34th.

The IHSAA New Haven Regional will be held at The Plex in Fort Wayne.
